Hiring the Right Tradesman

January 20, 2012 § Leave a comment

There are times, when it comes to upgrading the home or garden that is it sensible to bring in the professionals.  Most people reply on tradespeople, such as builders, plumbers, electricians and others when they are either not confident to do the job themselves or they don’t have the time to do the work themselves.

I am sure we’ve all been in a situation, especially when it comes to heating, plumbing and electrics, whereby a professional is required.  So what do you do when you want to call in a tradesman?  Sift through the Yellow Pages, surf the internet or go through the local paper for tradesman advertising their services?

There are two things that make most people worried about calling in someone they don’t know…

1. Are they going to be over-charged for the work and;

2. Are they indeed as professional as they say they are

There is nothing worse then ending up paying for a job that some cowboy bodged up.  We’ve all heard the stories how rogue tradesman continuously rip people off then close their business only to start up a new one and then rip even more people off.  It’s a sad fact of life that you have to be on your guard, but how can you tell if a tradesman really knows what he/she is doing?  How will you know that you are not being over-charged for the work and supplies?

1. You should always get a minimum of THREE quotes for the work you want doing

2. You should insist on reference and you MUST follow these reference up

3. Ask how long they have been in the trade and what qualifications they can.  This is essential for all building, electrical, gas and plumbing work!

By now you’re probably more worried than you was to start out with, but you must be on your guard if you don’t want to be a victim of a cowboy.

Now for some good news…

We all know that the internet has changed the way many businesses do business and the Tradesman Services industry is no different.  There are now, thankfully, a number of online services you can use to choose your next tradesman.  At Hometipster.com we work closely with Rated People.  There system is operated on a ‘Referral’ system, that is that each tradesman is referred by people who have used their services and therefore recommend them to others.

This service is a great way to remove the possibilities of hiring a cowboy and getting ripped off.  The service is very easy to use, simply complete the form, from the comfort of you own home on your computer and then wait for THREE quotes to come in.  You then get to see how much you will be charged and who will be doing the work.  Each of the three quotes you receive will be from reputable tradesman who have been recommended by other people who have had work done by them.

This service ultimately gives you peace of mind and makes the process of choosing the right tradesman much easier.  If you are currently looking for someone to undertake work in your home or garden then why not give this service a try.  It’s completely FREE, so you have nothing to lose and you will have the peace of mind in knowing that each quote you get comes from a tradesman that other people have used and recommended.
