DIY – How to Fit a Window Lock

Wooden framed windows area generally easier for a would be burglar compared to PVC due to the old style catches wooden framed windows have. I once saw a demonstration where someone simply gave the window a good hard knock with their hand at the bottom of the window frame which caused the window latch to fly up and off the lock hooks. This really hit home just how easy it was for a burglar to open a wood frame window.
If you do have wood frame windows with latches to secure the window when it is shut then it is advisable to fit a window lock. These are very easy to fit, in fact you’re looking at a DIY job that will take no more than 15 minutes.
It’s a good idea to have a chat with your insurance company as well. They may have a requirement that you do fit additional security measure to wooden framed window and without these your insurance might be invalid in the event of a break in. Also go and have a chat with the police at your local police station. They will be able to provide you with free advice on home security measures.
